About NappyTi.me

NappyTi.me is a free, independent bedtime calculator built and maintained by Cory, a solo founder based in Oklahoma City. There's no company behind it, no investors, and no team of paid writers — just one person who got tired of waking up groggy and built a tool to fix it.

    Why this exists

One in three U.S. adults reports not getting enough sleep, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The fix usually isn't more hours in bed — it's better-timed hours. Waking up in the middle of a deep-sleep stage produces "sleep inertia," the foggy, drained feeling that can last 30+ minutes even after a full eight hours.

Existing online sleep calculators were either cluttered with ads, missing the ambient sounds that actually help people drift off, or didn't account for the 15-minute average it takes to fall asleep. NappyTi.me is my attempt to do all three things in one clean, free, no-sign-up tool.

    How the calculator works

Adult sleep cycles last roughly 90 minutes and progress through light sleep (stages N1 and N2), deep sleep (N3), and REM sleep. Waking at the end of a complete cycle — when you're naturally near the surface — feels dramatically better than being pulled out of deep sleep mid-cycle.

The calculator counts backward from your wake-up time in 90-minute increments and adds the average 15 minutes most people need to fall asleep. The full math, sources, and limitations are documented on the Methodology page.

Cycle length varies between people (80–110 minutes is the published range), so the tool also lets you adjust your personal cycle length and fall-asleep time. Age-based sleep duration recommendations follow the National Sleep Foundation's published consensus guidelines.

    Cycle-based timing

Bedtime suggestions are calculated from the standard 90-minute adult sleep cycle and your personal fall-asleep buffer.

    Ambient soundscapes

Built-in rain, ocean, forest, and white-noise tracks to help mask environmental noise while you fall asleep.

    4-7-8 breathing guide

A guided implementation of the 4-7-8 breathing pattern, a relaxation technique popularized by Dr. Andrew Weil.

    Privacy first

    Free, no paywall

Every feature is free. The site is supported by minimal display advertising — never sponsored content inside articles.

    Dark-mode native

Designed for use in a dark bedroom. The interface defaults to a low-light palette to reduce blue-light exposure before bed.

    Meet the Founder

Cory, founder of NappyTi.me, in a dark suit and burgundy tie

Cory is the founder of NappyTi.me. He's a long-time entrepreneur based in Oklahoma City who has built and run companies across real estate investing, business consulting, and digital marketing for nearly two decades.

His interest in sleep is personal, not academic. After beating thyroid cancer, the relationship between rest, recovery, and quality of life stopped being abstract. Sleep became something he tracked, optimized, and took seriously every single day. NappyTi.me grew out of that — a simple, ad-light tool he genuinely wanted to use himself, built clean enough that he wouldn't mind handing it to his own family.

Cory is also the creator of The Grateful Project, where he has posted a daily reason to be grateful — without missing a single day — for over 9 years. The same consistency he brings to that project is what drives the editorial calendar here: everything published on NappyTi.me is written, fact-checked, and updated by him personally.

Cory is not a doctor, sleep scientist, or medical professional, and nothing on this site should be read as medical advice. Every health claim on NappyTi.me links directly to the public source it comes from (NIH, CDC, AASM, National Sleep Foundation, or peer-reviewed studies on PubMed) so you can verify it yourself.

    How content is written

NappyTi.me is not a medical site, and nothing here is medical advice. Every guide is written by the site's solo founder and is grounded in publicly available sources from the following organizations, which are linked inline wherever a specific claim is made:

    • National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute
    • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
    • American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)
    • National Sleep Foundation
    • Peer-reviewed studies indexed in PubMed

If you spot an error, an outdated source, or a claim that doesn't match the cited study, please email hello@nappyti.me and it will be reviewed and corrected. Read the full Editorial Policy for how corrections, updates, and source review work.

If you're experiencing persistent insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, or suspect a sleep disorder, please consult a qualified medical professional. A bedtime calculator is not a substitute for clinical care.
